Los Angeles Galaxy's Landon Donovan: Matchup With Real Madrid Will Be "A Really Fun Game"
Donovan addresses the excitement surrounding the exhibition with Real Madrid and speculation regarding his future.
By Nick Rosano
In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest on the radio personality's show On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Los Angeles Galaxy and U.S. national team star Landon Donovan talked about the excitement surrounding the Galaxy's upcoming friendly with Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid and addressed speculation regarding a possible move away from Major League Soccer.
Although Donovan called the show to discuss rumors that he has been selected by ABC to appear on the next season of "Dancing with the Stars," conversation inevitably turned to the star's on-field situation.
When asked if the game with Madrid had "significant meaning to it" Donovan replied, "Yeah, well it does for us, obviously. Not many players get a chance to play against Real Madrid. It's a big, massive club, one of the biggest clubs in the world."
Donovan also speculated that the Real Madrid players would be taking the game seriously, commenting, "For them this is no walk in the part either, they're in their preseason trying to get ready for their season and there's a lot of competition for them to play games once the season starts so that's gonna be a really fun game."
Donovan has begun to enjoy a modicum of star status in the United States after a successful and well-publicized performance in the World Cup, but in Saturday's upcoming game, his celebrity will be overshadowed by that of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. When asked if the two would be spending time together after the game, Donovan quipped, "I don't know if I want to be hanging out with that guy. How am I going to attract the ladies when he's around?"
Seacrest left some time to address questions about the USA star's future but Donovan was mum on the issue, reminding listeners that anything concrete has yet to emerge. "I'll see what happens as it comes around. For now it's still pretty preliminary, but I would guess at some point soon it'll be more realistic."
