Goal.com's MLS Player Of The Week: Steve Zakuani, Seattle Sounders FC

Steve Zakuani is Goal.com's MLS player of the week thanks to two first-half goals against the Colorado Rapids.

The brace gave Seattle Sounders FC its first win over Western Conference opposition this year, securing a 2-1 win in Qwest Field. It also marked the first multi-goal game for any Sounders FC players this year, and the first of Zakuani's career.

The 22-year-old got things started in the eighth minute. Latching onto a loose ball in the box, the first overall pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft uncorked a right-footed shot which hit the base of the post. Luckily for Seattle, the rebound hit the back of goalkeeper Matt Pickens and bounced into the net.

After Colorado tied up the game, Zakuani supplied the eventual winner in the 17th minute. From his position on the left win, Zakuani raced into the box and tapped home a low Sanna Nyassi cross directly in front of the goal.

The win lifts Seattle up to a point below Colorado, albeit with two games in hand.
