Chivas USA secured its second away win of the season this weekend, largely thanks to the finishing of Justin Braun.
Braun hit two second half shots past Kansas City Wizards goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, one with each peg, to give the Goats the win.
"For one of their younger guys to come up with two goals in a game where they were probably outplayed by the Wizards is a great sign for Braun and the team," said contributor Julian Kersh. "His brace won them the game, and should be a big confidence boost for the club since they hadn't nabbed the full three points in seven games."
The brace took the 23-year-old to six goals in 2010, already bettering his personal tallies in any previous professional season.
"Justin Braun began the season fifth on the depth chart (at best) as a striker and has yanked the starting position from the more experienced Maykel Galindo and has made management comfortable enough to release Maicon Santos," Chivas USA corresondent Manuel Carrera explained.
With Venezuelan striker Giancarlo Maldonado presented Monday, Braun will hope his scoring form can continue to land him a starting role. Strikes similar in quality to the shots against Kansas City won't hurt, as the beefy striker hit long-range sizzlers into the top corner with each foot.
"Both of his goals were very well taken and it's the quality of the finishes that makes it difficult to pick anyone else," commented Kevin McCauley.
Those who did pick other options plunged for Jon Busch of the San Jose Earthquakes, Fredy Montero of Seattle Sounders FC, and David Ferreira of FC Dallas.
