Player Ratings: D.C. United 3-2 Chivas USA
Goal.com rates the players who participated in D.C.'s second win of the season.
By Manuel Carrera
D.C. United
Bill Hamid-6: Should have been all over Galindo's goal. Did a good job with distribution throughout the match and kept his area tidy in spite of a shaky central defense.
Rodney Wallace-7: Set up Najar’s goal beautifully with a deft cross and helped keep Kljestan invisible throughout the match.
Juan Manuel Pena-4: Was shaky all night and did a poor job covering Galindo for Chivas USA's second goal.
Carey Talley-6: Was more of a threat offensively than he was a factor defensively. Allowed Justin Braun to overpower him as they ran side by side for 30 yards for the opening goal. Scored the winning goal from the spot following Thornton's ejection.
Jordan Graye-6: Invisible for most of the match, though he did keep Jesus Padilla quiet for the entire time he was on the pitch. Partially responsible, along with Pena, for Galindo's goal.
Andy Najar-8: Excellent goal off a Wallace assist, and a thorn in the side of Mariano Trujillo. Played with skill and reckless abandon while he was on the pitch.
Clyde Simms-7: Relatively quiet night as he soldiered in the midfield until he sent in the dangerous cross that Cristman tapped into the goal. Good distribution.
Stephen King-6: Relatively invisible in the midfield until he was booked in the 87th minute, but didn't make any costly mistakes.
Chris Pontius-7: Well-played match in the midfield for Pontius as he set up some dangerous situations in Chivas USAs third. Caused tense moments in the Goats' defense with diagonal runs that pulled Umana and Delgado out of position.
Santino Quaranta-8.5: Man of the Match. Excellent from set pieces, director of the United attack and caused the penalty kick that saw Thornton sent off.
Danny Allsopp-7.5: Impressive work rate during his tenure. Denied once by Thornton, and once by the goalpost.
Substitutions
Adam Cristman-7: First goal for United will likely be his easiest. Right place at the right time as he tapped in United's second. Effectively replaced Allsopp by keeping the Chivas USA defense busy.
Christian Castillo-4: Ineffective performance and whiffed on a goal-scoring opportunity.
Kurt Morsink-N/A

Chivas USA
Zach Thornton-3: Thornton was late to the ball all night. May have been a phantom penalty at the end of the match, but perception is reality. Was not helped by patchwork defending all night.
Marcelo Saragosa-4: Vasquez's fullback experiment was over-matched all night at right back. Shaky on the ball and unable to adjust to the new position.
Dario Delgado-5: Failed to clear United's second goal of the night and was lucky not to have gotten the own goal. Quaranta sped through his zone in the run-up to the penalty.
Michael Umana-4: May have been injured, but he struggled mightily to cope with the activity of the United forwards. Looked lost out there for the first time all season.
Mariano Trujillo-6: Did not look comfortable on the left and was overrun by Najar on the goal. Did well to establish distribution for the Goats attack midway through the match.
Blair Gavin-5: He and Zemanski struggled to curb the United attack all night. Was invisible in the attack.
Ben Zemanski-6.5: Covered a lot of ground as the garbage man in the Goats' midfield and quietly kept did the little things to keep United at bay.
Michael Lahoud-6: Set Braun loose for the opening goal, but then kept Najar onside minutes later for the equalizer.
Sacha Kljestan-5: Invisible all night. Kljestan did not factor in the game offensively.
Jesus Padilla-6: Kept quiet by Graye for most of the match before being subbed out. Tried to stretch the field on the flank for the Goats, but had little support aside from Braun.
Justin Braun-7: Scored a goal and did his best to pressure the United defense. One-man show for the Goats most of the match.
Substitutions
Maykel Galindo-7: Did his job by scoring the equalizer. Still showing signs of rust as he struggled to run down two passes.
