The world of North American soccer is abuzz with the news that French star Thierry Henry has signed a pre-contract with MLS and is set to join the New York Red Bulls after the World Cup.

If Henry comes to MLS, he will be the most accomplished footballer the league has ever seen. While it's impossible to sum up his accomplishments in a just a paragraph or two, here are a few highlights:

Henry is Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer, and led the Premier League in goals for four seasons. His teams have won the Premier League, the FA Cup, La Liga, the Copa Del Rey, and the Champions League. In international play, his French side won the World Cup in 1998, the European Championship in 2000, and were World Cup runners-up in 2006. He is France's all-time leading goalscorer.

The 32-year-old will join two other French-born players currently in MLS: Sebastien Le Toux and Julien Baudet of the Colorado Rapids.

"I'm looking forward to having him play here," Le Toux said after the Union’s 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday. "It would be wonderful for Major League Soccer. We see every time when great players like [Cuauhtemoc] Blanco or [David] Beckham come to MLS, it brings more and more people to watch this game and come to the stadiums."

Le Toux was 14 years old when he watched Henry lead France in goals during Les Bleus' run to the 1998 World Cup.

"I tried to watch and learn from his performances," Le Toux noted. "I watched him a lot in France—World Cup ’98, Euro 2000. He was one of my favorite forwards. He was a great player who's won lots of titles and had an amazing career."

Though Henry is coming off a disappointing season for Barcelona and the controversy surrounding his handball in the World Cup playoff against Ireland, he remains one of soccer’s  biggest names internationally.

"It's a great thing to have this type of player who’s had great success in his career to come to play now in MLS," Le Toux said.
