Not content to sit on an MLS Cup win, Real Salt Lake boosted its offense by signing Costa Rican international Alvaro Saborio on loan from FC Sion for the 2010 MLS season.

The 27-year-old striker will help bolster the offense in the wake of Yura Movsisyan's departure for Randers FC.

"We are energized that our pursuit of a striker has reached a successful conclusion with the addition of Álvaro Saborío," said RSL general manager Garth Lagerwey. "We still have a few steps to complete in obtaining his player pass and securing a work permit, but if we are able to accomplish those steps we are cautiously optimistic Álvaro could be available to play early in the season."

Saborio made his name in CONCACAF and then with Club Deportivo Saprissa, in his native Costa Rica, having come through the youth ranks of Mexican side Tigres. After scoring 95 goals in 149 games over five years with Saprissa, FC Sion in the Swiss Super League snapped him up. In Switzerland, he continued his goal record, with 36 strikes in 87 matches.

Last season, he spent the year on loan with Bristol City in the English Championship.

In 55 internationals, Saborio, already a fluent English speaker, has scored 22 goals.
