USA U-17 Midfielder Gil Signs With MLS
The highly sought after teen will be playing for Major League Soccer.
By Shane Evans
16-year old Luis Gil has signed with Major League Soccer and will be allocated through a weighted draft that is set for Monday.
The California native had received interest from Arsenal of the English Premier League, among other European clubs but decided that MLS was the right choice for him at this stage in his career.
Talking with the Washington Post, Gil's agent, Mike Gartlan expected Gil to end up with Arsenal, but were pleased with how MLS stepped up to sign him. "We thought he would end up with them [Arsenal], but MLS worked very hard to make this happen. It's been a challenge, but we got it done."
The allocation draft will be determined by how the teams in the league performed last season, with the New York Red Bulls having the best chance at drafting the starlet.
