Mathis Undergoes Knee Surgery
Midfielder suffered torn meniscus in preseason training.

The LA Galaxy announced today that midfielder Clint Mathis will miss the next 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Mathis, who was re-acquired by the Galaxy last month, suffered the injury in training last week and underwent successful surgery on Friday at the Surgery Center of the Pacific in Santa Monica.
An MLS Cup winner in 2009 with Real Salt Lake, Mathis is in his third stint with the Galaxy, having originally played for the club from 1998-2000 and then again briefly in 2007. The 33-year-old is entering his 12th season in MLS, having scored 61 goals and 54 assists in 249 career regular season games with the Galaxy, MetroStars/New York Red Bulls, Colorado and Real Salt Lake. A veteran of the U.S. National Team who played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Mathis also spent time playing abroad in Germany and Greece in addition to his time in MLS.
Mathis has already begun his rehabilitation and could return to full training before the end of the preseason. He is expected to be available for the club’s season opener against the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 27.
