Ljungberg: I Will Be With My Team In Seattle
The midfielder has cleared up any confusion about his future.
Rumors have been flying lately about the future of Seattle Sounders midfielder Freddie Ljungberg. After a very solid first year in Major League Soccer, the former Arsenal star was reportedly offered a place with a number of top European clubs, and with the labor situation in MLS in flux at the moment, it seemed possible that Ljungberg would make a swift exit.
But today on his personal website, freddie.speaksup.com, the Sounders designated player announced that he would be with his team in Seattle starting Feburary 1.
"Based on the latest news I’ve heard from both sides, there wont be a lock out or strike on Feb 1, he said in a post on the site. "So from Feb 1 I will be with my team in Seattle trying to help them become the best team in America."
Ljungberg had earlier addressed the issues that are keeping the owners and players of MLS at odds saying that all the players were asking for was the rights granted by FIFA, and that he was surprised that the negotiations were taking so long.
"Every football player in the world that I know of plays under those rules, big or small leagues," he said. "So when I thought an agreement would be signed in a second…How wrong was I…"
