Galaxy In Talks With Everton, Other Clubs, For Donovan
The interest in Landon Donovan is apparently not confined to the English club, but the Galaxy are hoping to keep any loan deals short-term.
Landon Donovan's current club, the Los Angeles Galaxy, have confirmed that they are in talks with Everton in England about the possibility of sending their player on loan during the offseason of Major League Soccer.
However, the MLS club, which narrowly lost out on the championship in penalty kicks this past season, also specified that Everton are not the only suitor for Donovan's services.
In an official statement, the Galaxy stated their view of things.
“We are aware of Everton’s interest in Landon Donovan, as they are one of a number of clubs who have contacted the Galaxy about the possibility of a short term loan agreement for Landon. The Galaxy, MLS and Landon’s representative will work together to determine if and whether an arrangement with Everton or any other club would be beneficial to all parties.”
With the emphasis on "short-term" it is unlikely that the Galaxy would agree to any loan along the lines of that which David Beckham arranged to let him go to AC Milan last season.
Like Beckham, Donovan also had a loan during the last winter offseason, but his stint for Bayern Munich was arranged to be much shorter. Donovan was back before the Galaxy's first MLS match of the season.
It is likely the same sort of loan would take place again, unless Donovan impresses enough to warrant a full transfer.
Paris St. Germain and Livorno are two other clubs who have expressed interest in Donovan of late.
The Galaxy are unlikely to let their top goalscorer and league MVP transfer for a bargain price.
