D.C. Make Academy Signing

D.C. United have inked their first deal with one of their youth academy products by signing 18-year-old Bill Hamid.

D.C. United held a press conference an hour before the start of the U.S. Open Cup Final to announced the signing of keeper Bill Hamid.

Hamid, an 18 year old who just recently graduated from high school, signed with United from their youth academy. The signing of Hamid marks the first time United has signed a player from their youth team.

At 6 feet 3 inches, Hamid has been scouted by clubs throughout the U.S., as well as clubs in Europe. He came close to signing for Scottish giants Celtic FC last year, but work permit issues prevented him from making the switch.

Hamid was presented with the number 28 jersey at the press conference, held with General Manager Dave Kasper and team President Kevin Payne. As per MLS rules, Hamid will be able to join the United side this season without counting against the squad limit of 24 players. He will however, be unavailable for MLS competition, although, he is eligible to play in CONCACAF Champions League matches.
