Houston Overcomes Chicago Rally For Win

The Dynamo may have relaxed too much with their early lead, but they recovered in time.

Houston pulled out a late 3 - 2 victory over the Chicago Fire after the visiting team had rallied from two goals down.

First Half

The Western Conference leaders looked to extend their point total at home and got on the board within the first half hour.

Kei Kamara finished off a Geoff Cameron pass on a play that started from a quick throw-in, taking the shot that breached the effort of goalkeeper Jon Busch.

Houston kept the pressure up and gained another goal in the 37th minute. This time, Brian Ching played provider, serving the ball to Ricardo Clark as he made a run behind the defense. He was able to beat Busch in the one-on-one battle to finish the opportunity.

The Fire could not seem to get a sustained attack going in the first half.

Second Half

The Fire came storming back after the break, however.

In the 46th minute, Chris Rolfe pulled off an impressive individual effort, driving through the midfield before loosing a shot on goal that bested Pat Onstad.

Only two minutes later, the Fire struck again. Cuauhtemoc Blanco battled for a ball that he was able to send to Peter Lowry, who powered the ball into the net.

With the score suddenly level, both teams fought for the final advantage, unwilling to share the points.

Ching missed a prime opportunity when he send a shot high, but Houston was able to recover.

Corey Ashe made the difference when he was taken down in the box with less than ten minutes left in the match.

Stuart Holden, who was honored on the night with a bobblehead giveaway, tucked away the penalty without any problem.

Houston thus closed out a game which at first seemed like an easy win that got away, before they got it back. The Dynamo next take on Real Salt Lake, while the Fire face the Wizards.
