Goal.com's MLS Player Of Week 20: FC Dallas' Jeff Cunningham

After hitting four goals in a 6-0 demolition of the KC Wizards, FC Dallas forward Jeff Cunningham is Goal.com's MLS player of the week.

Many wondered what FC Dallas would do for offensive spark after selling attacking linchpin Kenny Cooper to 1860 Munich. Apparently, the team is going to let Jeff Cunningham explode up front. The Jamaican hit four goals in a 6-0 win over the Kansas City Wizards.

“Four goals in a match will win you MLS player of the week in almost any week,” said associate editor Allen Ramsey. “Cunningham dropped a quad on Kansas City, tell the world that the selling of Kenny Cooper might not be that big a deal.”

Cunningham's four goals took him to 112 in his Major League Soccer career, launching him ahead of current Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis into the third all-time goalscorer position. The 32-year-old also joined Kreis as second overall in game-winning goals (31) and tied LA Galaxy assistant coach Cobi Jones as seventh overall in games played (306).

“Only nine times in league history had a player scored four or more goals before Cunningham accomplished the feat for a tenth time Saturday,” said contributor Seth Vertelney. “His selection as POW is an obvious one then, as he and his FCD teammates shredded the Wizards' defense to the tune of a 6-0 shellacking. Paging Curt Onalfo - your therapist is on line one.”

No other player received votes this week.
