Beckham: You Have To Enjoy These Moments

The English star spoke to the media after his Galaxy side took on Barcelona and said that players have to enjoy games like that.

It’s been a bit of a rocky return to the Los Angeles Galaxy for David Beckham. After spending his winter in Italy playing for A.C. Milan the star midfielder has not received the warmest of welcomes back in the U.S.

But on Saturday night Beckham showed his skill, scoring the Galaxy’s only goal from a set piece, a goal that at the time leveled the Major League Soccer side with the European champions.

“As soon as I hit it I knew it was going in,” Beckham said of his freekick. “It’s like a golfer. When you hit a golf ball. When you hit the sweet spot, you know where it’s going. As soon as I was given the freekick I knew that I had a chance because it was in a good position.  I knew if I got it on target I would have a chance and lucky enough I did.”

The Galaxy went on to lose the match in the final minutes, but Beckham was still confident that the fans got what they came to see.

“I’ve enjoyed the night tonight and I think the majority of the fans will go home happy,” he said after stating that the poor reaction from a small number of fans was just part of life.

“To come here and the pitch is perfect and 93,000 fans turning up. It’s a night to remember for all of us because it doesn’t happen to play in front of this many fans and to play against European champions and (Lionel) Messi and Thierry (Henry) and so many great players. You have to enjoy these moments and I think we all did.”

Beckham also said that he was excited to watch La Liga this season with Barcelona and his former club Real Madrid both having added even more talent to their rosters through the transfer window.

“It’s going to be an exciting league this year in La Liga,” he said. “(Zlatan) Ibrahimovic is a great player. He’s still young and he’s so talented. I saw with what he was like in Inter and he’s so talented. With the rest of the players they’ve got with Xavi and (Andres) Iniesta and other players that they’ve got it’s going to be an incredible season because Real Madrid have bought really good as well.”

Beckham and the Galaxy will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to New England to take on the Revolution in MLS action.
