VIDEO: Beckham Talks About His Commitment To LA
Watch video of David Beckham trying to explain the disparity between his words, which swear allegiance to U.S. soccer, and his actions, which long to be in Europe.
HOBOKEN, New Jersey -- Despite spending the past seven months on loan with AC Milan, David Beckham says he is fully committed to the Los Angeles Galaxy. He said it again and again during a press conference here on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Thursday’s New York Red Bulls-LA Galaxy game, Beckham’s first match back with the Major League Soccer club.
Beckham’s commitment was questioned during the press conference by Grant Wahl, the Sports Illustrated writer whose new book, The Beckham Experiment, has been the source of much discussion and controversy.
“How do you justify being fully committed to the Galaxy and to MLS and American soccer when you’re a part-time player this year and you’ve already stated you want to be a part-time player next year?” Wahl asked.
After a quick joke referencing Wahl’s book, Beckham went into a long explanation of how committed he is.
“For me, it’s about creative visualization,” Beckham said. “And I envisualize [sic] that this game will take off and get bigger [in the U.S.] in years to come, and I want to be part of that.”
