Szetela Returning To Major League Soccer

U.S. Olympic Team midfielder Danny Szetela is returning to MLS.

After a stint in Europe with Racing Santander and a resulting loan spell in the Italian second division with Brescia, Danny Szetela is returning to the United States to play in Major League Soccer.

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a contract that will run through this year and has three one year options on it as well according to Goal.com sources in MLS.

A former member of the Columbus Crew, Szetela has been placed on the allocation list which would allow F.C. Dallas to have the first shot at him. However, MLS sources also said that the Hoops have not put in a claim to the league while the team in the second spot on the list, D.C. United, has.

Szetela earned his way to Europe with a strong performance in the 2007 U-20 World Cup, but never found much success. The midfielder never saw any league action for Racing and, despite starting out well for Brescia, failed to see the field in the latter stages of the season.

A hard nosed defensive midfielder, Szetela doesn’t seem to be a perfect fit for United, who already have a fairly solid core of midfields, but would add some depth to a line that has seen its share of injuries over the last couple of years.
