Goal.com's MLS Player Of Week 16: LA's Alecko Eskandarian

Alecko Eskandarian is Goal.com's MLS player of week 16.

Alecko Eskandarian has won Goal.com's Major League Soccer player of the week for matchday 16. The 26-year-old struck the only goal of the game between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the New England Revolution to give LA a 1-0 win.

“Eskandarian opened his account for L.A. in style with a game winner over New England to put the Galaxy back within striking distance of Seattle in the West,” said associate editor Allen Ramsey.

The 2004 MLS Cup MVP only joined the Galaxy on Wednesday, in a trade with city-rivals Chivas USA. Also, he was a late addition to the starting lineup after Alan Gordon went down injured in the pregame warmups. The swiftness of events didn't phase Eskandarian, however, and he did his job as a striker by scoring.

“It can't be easy to switch over to a new squad, especially when they are crosstown rivals, but to find out one is starting on ten minutes notice is even more difficult,” said chief editor Andrea Canales. “No matter. Esky was determined to make his mark and he did with a perfectly timed run and precise finish to mark the only goal of the game and keep the Galaxy competitive in the West.”

Jeff Cunningham knows what it's like to switch clubs – he's played for five teams in the last six years – and he knows how to score goals. Now with FC Dallas, he's back to his scoring ways. Against the New York Red Bulls, the Jamaican hit a brace to lead his team to a 2-1 win.

“He's a streaky guy, which is a good thing for FC Dallas right about now,” said Mexico editor Luis Bueno.

The other player to receive votes was the Chicago Fire's Wilman Conde.
