New York Aquires Bouna Condoul, Waives Jon Conway
The New York Red Bulls have acquired Bouna Coundoul from the Colorado Rapids. To make room, the club waived Jon Conway.
It's Bouna time in New York.
The Red Bulls have acquired the rights to goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for allocation money.
At the end of last season, the Rapids and Coundoul could not agree on a contract, and the Senegalese native has been without a club since. Matt Pickens replaced Coundoul between the sticks in Colorado.
Raised in New York, Coundoul's arrival pushes Jon Conway out of the club. Conway spent four years with the Bulls, but his time was marred by a 10 game suspension at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009 for violating Major League Soccer's drug policy. By the time the 6'6 'keeper returned this season, he had been dislodged by Danny Cepero and could not permanently force himself back into the starting XI.
Coundoul, 27, is expected to start ahead of the 24-year-old Cepero.
