Real Madrid Confirm Friendlies With Toronto FC & D.C. United

With a new administration in place, Los Blancos have begun their mission to conquer North America.

Real Madrid’s ferocious rivalry with Barcelona looks set to spill beyond Spanish shores after the capital giants confirmed that they would organize part of their preseason tour for the upcoming campaign in North America.

Having pushed their marketing potential to the limit in Asia during the David Beckham years, Madrid will now attempt to challenge Barcelona in a bid to conquer the market in the Americas.

According to the club’s official website, Los Blancos will take on Toronto FC on August 7 at BMO Field before playing DC United at FedEx Field two days later.

“The exhibition matches are a key part of Real Madrid’s strategy to globalize their brand as the premier football club in the world and they have been organized in co-operation with Multimedia Sports,” the statement elaborated.

Over the past few years, Barca have wowed fans in the United States in particular, playing a series of exhibition games with their full squad of superstars and impressing football followers, critics and the media alike with their champagne style. They even came close throughout the course of last season to set-up a franchise in the MLS (Major League Soccer).
