Galaxy Rebuff Reports Of Arellano Link
With David Beckham's return up in the air, the Galaxy are apparently exhausting all available options to bring in some extra firepower, but the club has denied a link to Monterrey's Jesus Arellano.
Reports out of Mexico that the Los Angeles Galaxy are interested in acquiring Mexico's Jesus Arellano, currently plying his trade with Monterrey in the Primera Division, have been refuted firmly by the Major League Soccer club.
"There's no truth to that," was the official statement from the Galaxy.
Arellano is locked in contract negotiations with the Rayados of Monterrey, and his representatives may have started rumors of Galaxy interest in order to help secure a better deal.
The Galaxy have occasionally been linked, almost randomly, to a wide variety of players, including Michael Owen, Christian Vieri and Alessandro Del Piero. None of those rumors came to fruition, though the club did land the biggest name in soccer, David Beckham, back in 2007.
Now, however, Beckham is on an extended loan to Italy's AC Milan, though he is scheduled to rejoin the Galaxy this summer to close out the MLS season with the club.
At 36, Arellano is expected to end his playing career at Monterrey if a final deal is reached for one more term with the club.
The winger is a respected veteran who has represented the Mexican national team in three World Cups - 1998, 2002 and 2006.
