Goal.com's MLS Team Of The Week: Round 7
Two Western Conference clubs that blanked close rivals, Chivas USA and the Colorado Rapids, feature heavily in week 7's Major League Soccer Team of the Week.
Goalkeeper:
Zach Thornton (Chivas USA): Six saves against San Jose, and none of them easy. Thornton apparently has himself confused for the best 'keeper in the league, and Preki is hoping no one dissuades him of this.
Defense:
Kosuke Kimura (Colorado Rapids): His goal capped off an excellent night, with the fullback pushing into the space 10-man Real Salt Lake was leaving open.
Shavar Thomas (Chivas USA): A towering performance from the man who has started every game in the defense that has conceded a paltry three goals all year.
Dejan Jakovic (D.C. United): Has come into his own at the heart of the D.C. defense, using his ability on the ball and distribution as a valuable outlet.
Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA): His looped cross to assist the game's only goal might have had a bit of luck about it, but there was nothing fluky about his performance.
Midfield:
Emmanuel Ekpo (Columbus Crew): His incisive runs from deep in the midfield formed a weapon the Toronto FC midfield just wasn't equipped to deal with.
Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids): Shut down Javier Morales throughout the RSL game. Read that sentence again; you won't see it often this season.
Cuauhtemoc Blanco (Chicago Fire): Outplayed Seattle's opposite designated player and tormented its defensive unit all night.
Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids): Continues to contribute to Colorado's offense heavily with his pace, power, and trickiness down the flank. Notched an assist off a well-struck cross.
Attack:
Jaime Moreno (D.C. United): 13 seasons on and he's still showing these young upstarts how to slot home a composed finish or two.
Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy): Has either scored or assisted every one of LA's goals this season. Against New York he went one better, winning a penalty and then scoring it for the game's only goal.
Bench:
Donovan Ricketts (Los Angeles Galaxy), Tyrone Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC), Andre Rocha (FC Dallas), Marco Pappa (Chicago Fire), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Conor Casey (Colorado Rapids), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo)
