The Seattle Times has reported that Seattle Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero will not face any charges after a rape allegation.

Prosecutors in King County, the largest county in the state of Washington, say there is insufficient evidence to file any criminal charges. A 23-year-old woman had accused him of raping her in March and stalking her.

Montero was arrested on March 22, but released after surrendering his passport to authorities. The woman claimed that she had gone to Montero's house to retrieve a necklace she left there during an earlier visit, where the player had been sexually aggressive with her, only because another member of the team would be there.

The 21-year-old striker from Campo de la Cruz, Colombia is on loan to the Sounders and has quickly become a star, scoring three times to lead the team in goals. Expansion club Seattle has won three games and lost only one in Major League Soccer's 2009 season thus far, good for second place in the Western Conference.

The criminal investigation of Montero was referred from the Bellevue Police Department to the prosecutor's office for review. They announced on Tuesday that their review was complete and that no charges will be filed.
