thumbnail Hello,

El Muneco admitted that a victory in the superclasico against Boca Juniors could steer River Plate closer towards the title.

Marcelo Gallardo, the captain of River Plate, told the press that in next Sunday's superclasico with Boca Juniors, his team can't afford to commit any errors, as they have been doing in their last few games.

"We can't have any distractions against a team like Boca, because of the quality of their players. Neither of the two teams will give anything away, and neither will want to lose," said Gallardo.

"We can't continue to let them [River's opponents] play in the first 45 minutes. We have been giving other teams a big advantage," added the midfielder, in a press conference at River's training headquarters in Ezeiza.

Gallardo, who returned to River for the third time this season, doesn't think the current form of any of the two teams matters ahead of such an important match.

"I've experienced other derbies and both teams always arrive even. Taking part in a Boca-River is a privilege for any player. Nobody wants to give away anything and both teams always want to win."

Gallardo concluded by saying that River need to claim maximum points in the derby in order to remain in title contention.

"Even though we aren't playing well we are very close to the league leaders. Winning this match will serve us in convincing ourselves that we can fight for the championship."
