Arena Says Vieri Rumors Are False

The Galaxy manager has claimed that the rumors linking Christian Vieri to his club are false.

Reports out of Italy have said that 35-year-old Italian star Christian Vieri had flown to Los Angels with his girlfriend for a tryout with the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. The tryout was supposedly set up by Vieri’s friend David Beckham who is on loan from the Galaxy with A.C. Milan.

After the Galaxy’s U.S. Open Cup loss to the Colorado Rapids on Tuesday night, Galaxy manager Bruce Arena responded to a question about the rumor in his normal fashion, saying that there was not truth to it.

 

“Absolutely false,” the former U.S. National Team manager said. “As most of them are, I might add.”

 

Arena’s denials probably won’t do much to slow down the rumors. The Galaxy manager’s constant statements that Beckham would be back by March certainly did not come to fruition and Vieri might be the type of player who could help change the Galaxy’s fortunes.
