Columbus Signs Kevin Burns; Waives Kenny Schoeni
Reigning MLS champions Columbus Crew made two moves, re-signing midfielder Kevin Burns to a developmental contract and waiving 'keeper Kenny Schoeni.
The Columbus Crew has re-signed Kevin Burns to a developmental contract. The midfielder joined the team in the 2007 Supplemental Draft, but spent that year with the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the USL-1. He sat out the 2008 season with an ankle injury.
“We are pleased to get Kevin signed this year. He was a player who we thought had good potential last year, but unfortunately he was injured early on and was unable to contribute,” said Crew technical director Brian Bliss. “We expect him to pick up where he left off last year and help us solidify our central midfield. He is a smart player who reads the game well and can distribute the ball well over distance.”
To make room, Columbus cut goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni, who had made no first team appearances for the club.
