Through a press release the Colorado Rapids have announced the acquisition of the rights to Gregory Richardson from Toronto FC in exchange for their second round draft pick in next year’s MLS SuperDraft.

“I think we are adding a very explosive and athletic forward who I believe has a huge amount of potential,” said head coach Gary Smith. “I am sure he will be a wonderful addition to our already youthful and exciting front line.”

Richardson is set to become the first Guyanese player to sign a contract with Major League Soccer once he is added to the Rapids regular roster.

It was playing for Joe Public FC where Richardson made a name for himself, particularly against the New England Revolution in the CONCACAF Champions League. Joe Public recorded an impressive 4-0 victory of the Revs back in September, three of the goals were scored by Richardson.

The 26-year-old is a native of Georgetown, Guyana.
