Bayern Munich Still Deciding On Donovan
Landon Donovan still has cause for hope that he will be playing for AC Milan even beyond mid-March.
Bayern Munich are still evaluating whether to launch an all-out offensive for Landon Donovan.
The American ace is officially just in Munich on loan from LA Galaxy until March 15, but he has hardly made a secret of his desire to make the deal more permanent - but it remains to be seen whether the feeling is mutual.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told tz newspaper: "Landon Donovan is a good player and certainly interesting,"
"But when your club already has (Miroslav) Klose, (Luca) Toni and is also getting Ivica Olic, we are thinking that our fourth striker should be a talented youngster," he added, a bit ominously from Donovan's perspective.
The 26-year-old speed-demon will have taken encouragement from recent comments made by Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann, however.
"I have not given up on Landon yet," he told local reporters.
"It is up to him to take the chances we have allowed him to pursue.
"He has the potential to succeed and we are keen to make sure he does."
Even should Bayern decide to go for him, whether David Beckham's expected move to AC Milan will hamper Donovan's German ambitions remains to be seen.
