Houston's Felix Garcia To Postpone Joining MLS
New-signing Felix Garcia has decided to postpone joining the professional game with the Houston Dynamo. Instead, the youngster will complete his high school degree and join MLS at an undetermined date.
New Houston Dynamo acquisition Felix Garcia will postpone playing for the Major League Soccer club to finish high school. Houston traded allocation positions with Toronto FC as well as giving the Canadian team an international roster spot for two years to land the 18-year-old striker, but will have to wait for their investment to pay off.
"Felix Garcia has returned to Laredo and decided that his priority is to finish high school before starting a professional soccer career," the Dynamo said in an official statement. "There is no timetable for his return to the team. The Dynamo will retain Felix’s rights, but he will not occupy a roster spot while he’s gone. Upon his return, the Dynamo will determine the appropriate developmental path for him as a player and as an individual. The outcome of this decision, when made, will determine his roster status. He is a talented young man with a bright future and, as a result, we are going to be very patient with him as he develops and matures."
With this decision and the departure of Nate Jaqua in the expansion draft to Seattle Sounders FC, Houston are looking a little bare in the striking department.
