Dynamo Re-Sign Boswell, Deal Ianni

Houston Dynamo have tweaked the defensive line, re-signing stalwart Bobby Boswell and trading away Patrick Ianni for a future draft pick from Seattle Sounders FC.

Houston Dynamo made two adjustments to their defensive line Monday: re-signing 2006 defender of the year Bobby Boswell and trading away Patrick Ianni to Seattle Sounders FC.

Boswell was out of contract at the end of 2008 and reports suggested he could try his luck overseas. However, Houston moved to re-sign the 25-year-old and locked him down to a multi-year contract, though terms were not released.

"We're very happy to have Bobby coming back," Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear said. "We had the best defense in the league last year, and he was a big part of that. We feel defense is a big part of winning championships, and having Bobby in there will help us make a run at another title."

Houston won the Major League Soccer Cup in 2006 and 2007. If they manage to win another, it will be without the services of defender Patrick Ianni. The 23-year-old has been traded to Seattle for a third round 2010 draft pick. If Ianni plays more than 20 MLS games for the Sounders in the upcoming season, however, it will be a second round pick instead.

"Ianni gives us a young, experienced central defender with a big upside," said Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid. "He’s very strong in the air, which is something we need to add to our team right now."

Ianni has spent all three of his MLS years in Texas with the Dynamo.
