Revs Pick Gotsmanov To Finish Senior Year
Creighton University senior Andrei Gotsmanov has decided to wait to join up with the New England Revolution and will finish his senior year at that mid-west school.
Andrei Gotsmanov, a second-round pick by the New England Revolution in this year’s MLS SuperDraft has decided to finish his senior year at Creighton University before reporting to the team in May.
According to the soccer blog, “Du Nord,” the team understand his decision and support him in making it. Once he graduates the Belarus native is free to join up with the team and fight for a place on Steve Nicol’s roster.
"The New England Revolution firmly believes in the value of education and would never ask a player to leave school early to prevent him from finishing his degree," Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Mike Burns told the team's official website. "We fully support Andrei, as we would any of our draft picks, in the decision to complete his degree and look forward to him joining the team upon his graduation in May."
The 22-year-old Gotsmanov was born in Minsk, Belarus, but now calls Eagan, Minnesota his home. He led the Missouri Valley Conference in goals as an attacking midfielder, scoring 10 during the season.
He was named player of the year for the conference and the MVC tournament MVP. He was also a first-team selection on the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men’s Division I All-America Team.
