Giménez Would Consider MLS Move

Pachuca's star playmaking midfielder, Argentine Christian Giménez, known as El Chaco, would be open to a move to Major League Soccer.

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Perhaps the possibility of playing in Major League Soccer crossed the mind of Christian Giménez when his Mexican club, Pachuca, participated in the inaugural SuperLiga tournament in 2007, winning the title in Carson at the Home Depot Center in a penalty-kick shootout versus the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Or perhaps he considered the option after seeing a former Boca Juniors teammate, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, find great success in the league, winning the Most Valuable Player award, the best regular-season trophy Supporter's Shield, and the MLS Championship.

Giménez was also once a teammate in Mexico of Cuauhtemoc Blanco, when both played for Veracruz.

Blanco has become an icon of the Chicago Fire since joining MLS. He has led the team to the playoffs every season he has been with the club.

For whatever reason, Giménez, though very successful of late with Pachuca, said that he would be willing to try his luck in the United States.

He spoke exclusively to Goal.com after Pachuca won over Atlas in a penalty shootout at the Interliga.

"Sure," Giménez responded to the question of whether he could see himself playing in MLS in the future. "Why not? I like MLS a lot - I watch it a lot. I know that for players like Guillermo and Blanco, things are going very well. I watch the games and I think I'd like to play here. Why not?"

The wily midfielder scored one of Pachuca's three goals against Atlas. The experienced player has also served as a mentor to some of Pachuca's younger players, including American Jose Francisco Torres.

"To me, he's a great soccer player who has great qualities," Torres explained about Giménez. "He is always cheering you on, even  if you mess up on something. He's a great soccer player who has great talent. He makes everything happy. I look up to him a lot."
