David Beckham Set To Extend His AC Milan Stay

After making a decent start to his Milan career, Beckham's new employers seek for an extension to his contract.

Italian giants AC Milan have announced that they wish to extend new arrival David Bekham's loan stay with the club.

Beckham joined the former Serie A holders on a three month loan from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy during the MLS closed season in order to keep himself match fit and to keep his international career going.

The American club have always maintained that Beckham will only be staying in Italy for the three month loan and no longer, but Milan's director of operations Umberto Gandini has said that he is hopeful the England international will extend his stay at the San Siro.

Beckham is set to return to the MLS strugglers in March in time for the start of the new MLS season but may be open to a longer stay in Italy as Milan seek some silverware.

Gandini believes that Beckham's three month stay in Milan is not enough as he would only be playing a handful of games for the Rossoneri, and admits he is looking to lengthen the 33-year-old's contract.

The Sunday Mirror have quoted Gandini as saying, "We would be foolish not to look into extending his contract.

"David is a great player and we think he can fit into our game plan and give AC Milan a higher profile.

"What we have is a short-term contract in which he'll play eight to 10 games."

However, contrary to these reports, Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliviera has stated that Beckham fully intends to be with his parent club in time for the new MLS season.

"As David has said recently, he will be back in the US for March 9 and with LA Galaxy for the start of the MLS season."
