Galaxy Sign Griffin, Release Dominguez

LA Galaxy have signed Leonard Griffin, re-signed Steve Cronin and Jovan Kirovski, and waived Eduardo Dominguez.

MLS: Eduardo Dominguez, Los Angeles Galaxy, July 2008 (LA Galaxy/MLS)
The Los Angeles Galaxy have reshuffled their roster slightly.

They have signed midfielder Leonard Griffin, who traveled to New Zealand with the team late last year. Griffin was drafted by the Chicago Fire in the 2004 SuperDraft, but signed with the USL Portland Timbers prior to the 2007 season after just 18 games in three years. He also had a short stint with the Columbus Crew after the 2007 season.

Making way is Eduardo Dominguez. The Argentine replaced the departing Abel Xavier midseason in 2008, but only made two starts before being found out as not being up to standard. The 30-year-old leaves a sizable chunk of wage cap space behind in his absense.

They will use some of that space on Jovan Kirovski and Steve Cronin. Both have signed new contracts. Cronin was the starting goalkeeper last season until injury caused him to miss the last several weeks. He will face stiff competition from newly-acquired Donovan Ricketts in 2009, though.

Kirovski was aquired from the San Jose Earthquakes in November, and traveled with the squad to New Zealand as well, but only now signed a contract.
