Cooper Staying In Dallas For One More Year
FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman has confirmed that the Texas club will count on star striker Kenny Cooper in the 2009 season, despite reports linking him with a move abroad.
As fans of Major League Soccer brace themselves for the top crop of talent to depart for the more lucrative European shores in the winter transfer window, they’ve been given some small reprieve.
It appears that Kenny Cooper will be staying state-side for one more year.
The imposing striker nearly joined Cardiff FC in the summer, but FC Dallas rejected the proposed deal even after MLS had agreed terms. Many expected the USA international to complete a move in the winter, but that appears to not be the case.
“I believe we will have Kenny for this year,” Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said according to DallasSoccerNews.com. When prodded for further explanation, he said, “All I know, we got an O.K. to count on Kenny for the season.”
Last season Cooper finished second in goalscoring in the league, notching 18 goals over the course of the season. The former Manchester United youth player combines pace, size, and silky ball control to form a multi-faceted attacking threat which is integral to Dallas’ offensive plans for 2009.
