Celtic and Others Chase MLS Star Kljestan

Sacha Kljestan looks to be the next MLS star to make the move to Europe, as a number of top clubs are chasing his signature.

Celtic has joined a lengthy list of suitors for Sacha Kljestan, according to the Sunday Mail. It’s a list that already includes Monaco, Heerenveen, FC Twente, Leverkusen, Schalke, and Wolfsburg.

The 23-year-old had a strong season for Chivas USA in Major League Soccer, scoring six goals in twenty-three matches. He also emerged in the international scene, impressing with an under-23 team that took part in the Olympics in Beijing as well as forcing himself into a starting role for the full national team in a deeper midfield position.

Now it looks as if the Anaheim, CA native will leave the Goats for a destination in Europe. The league has already lost Michael Parkhurst in the offseason, and will most likely be without Chad Marshall and Landon Donovan by the time 2009 rolls around.

If Kljestan does move to Glasgow and sign for Celtic, he will have fellow internationals DaMarcus Beasley and Maurice Edu also in the city, albeit on the other side of the fierce Glasgow rivalry between Celtic and Rangers.
