Osorio: I Don't Know if I Will Stay With New York

Juan Carlos Osorio helped the New York Red Bulls win a conference championship, though they fell just short of the championship in Major League Soccer. Yet the Colombian coach is now considering offers from other teams in Mexico and Columbia.

As reported today in the Colombian sports website, enlajugada, Osorio stated, "I don't know if I'll stay with New York. The club wants me to continue, but I'm not completely sure I'll stay on as coach of the Red Bulls."

Osorio has already left one MLS team behind. He departed his post as coach of the Chicago Fire after less than a full season in 2007. Osorio had turned the last-place club around, but he switched to New York as soon as that post became available.

An unsual clause in his contract allowed Osorio to leave for New York. The general manager who approved that clause, John Guppy, was later fired by Fire owner Andrew Hauptman.

Osorio was a long-time assistant coach in New York before leaving to be an assistant with Manchester City. Before joining the Fire, he also coached Millionarios, a club in Colombia.

The reason Osorio is hesitating to commit to New York is that apparently the organization isn't commiting to the player overhaul that the coach would like to see.

"The club wants me and Juan Pablo Angel to say on, but they're not very interested in strengthening our roster. Honestly, I don't think I want to deal with getting hammered in the Concacaf Champions Cup next year. That's the crucial point and what will determine my decision."

Colombia's Deportivo Cali is confirmed as one club who would definitely be interested in Osorio's services, but two Mexican clubs have also contacted the coach, though he declined to name them.
