Wizards Conjure Cristman Capture
The Kansas City Wizards have acquired striker Adam Cristman from the New England Revolution for a 3rd round draft pick and allocation money. The deal happened in a half-day window opening.
The Kansas City Wizards have brewed together what they
feel will be an effective potion to help their offensive woes next season. The
main ingredient appears to be forward Adam Cristman.
The New England Revolution has traded the rights to Cristman for KC’s 3rd round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money. The deal took place during a half-day trade window prior to the deadline for MLS clubs to submit their list of protected players in the expansion draft. That takes place on Wednesday, when Seattle Sounders FC will select 10 players from other MLS clubs who have not been protected.
The Wizards recently re-cast their offense in the previous transfer window, acquiring Abe Thompson, Herculez Gomez, and Josh Wolff to supplement designated player Claudio Lopez. That strategy didn’t work out as well as the organization would have liked as KC crashed out of the playoffs in the first round to eventual winners Columbus Crew.
Now they’ve moved to stir in something a bit different. Cristman offers power up front with a solid ability holding up the ball. He was a finalist for the 2007 Rookie of the Year Award and scored 6 times last season, despite being plagued by injury. His partnership with Taylor Twellman looked as if it could carry the Revolution far until it was broken up by injuries to both strikers.
Now, however, Cristman is looking forward to a new challenge in the heart of America.
"There are a lot of good players on Kansas City's roster," Cristman said. "I look forward to learning the system, settling in and making an impact. I am from Virginia and have always lived in coastal towns, but my wife and I look forward to experiencing new things in Kansas City."
The potency of this latest offensive spell by the Wizards won’t be seen until March of 2009 when MLS action kicks off again.
