The mayors of both New York City and Columbus decided on a little friendly bet ahead of the MLS Cup on Sunday.
With both cities participating, the mayors decided to raise the stakes a little, as if they weren’t high enough, but adding a little something to the pot.
If New York wins the Cup on Sunday, Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman will send New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomburg a package of Ohio State Buckeyes candies, and a case of Columbus’s finest ale from the Columbus Brewing Company.
If the predictions hold true and the favored Crew win, Mayor Bloomburg will send Mayor Coleman a large John’s Special pizza, a large Italian Hero from Leo’s Latticini and Mama’s of Corona and a case of Brooklyn Lager from Brooklyn Brewery.
“Winning the Major League Soccer title would be a fantastic and fitting end to the Red Bull’s come-from-behind season,” said Mayor Bloomberg in anticipation of tomorrow’s final. “Soccer fans from Riverdale to Rockaway will tune in tomorrow to see the team from the country’s premier soccer-loving city bring home its first MLS Cup.”
Sounding just as confident was Mayor Coleman.
“The Crew is the hardest working team in America and the team’s excellent players worked harder than ever this season,” Mayor Coleman said of his city’s team. “Along with all Crew fans, I can taste victory. I look forward to tasting Mayor Bloomberg’s Staten Island pizza as well.”
It remains to be seen which city will win the cup and which mayor will enjoy a free dinner compliments of the losing cities head politician, but after tomorrow, one mayor will certainly be celebrating in style.
