The Frenchman spent nine years at Manchester United before swapping Old Trafford for the Emirates in the summer and signing a two year deal with the Gunners.

The 31-year-old featured in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over his former side yesterday and has now admitted that he harbours ambitions to play in the United States.

According to the News of the World, the defender said: “I would definitely like to play in America one day.”

Silvestre will be 33 when his Arsenal contract ends and he confessed that should he still feel healthy, he will be happy to prolong his career. He admitted: “And if I have still got energy left in me after my Arsenal career I will carry on.”

However, although many European based players often view America as a destination where they can end their career, the former Red Devil is adamant this is not the case for him.

Indeed Silvestre insists that he would want to impress in the States and not just make up the numbers. He concluded: “But I don’t just want to go over to the States and wear the shirt – I want to keep playing and do well in America.”

Should Silvestre head to the States he would follow several other players who have played in the Premier League and are now plying their trade in Major League Soccer.

Of course David Beckham is the most high-profile, but other players include Juan Pablo Angel, Freddie Ljungberg, Brian McBride and Darren Huckerby.
