Live Commentary

  • So that's it from me after a frantic encounter at the DW Stadium, this is a result that could be vital in the end of the season shake-up but you sense both teams will be a little disappointed. This is Nicholas McGee signing off!
  • There is not another twist in the tale in Lancashire as the full-time whistle signals the end of the game, both teams will have to settle for a share of the spoils but Southampton will feel aggrieved not to have taken all three after dominating the game and leading with minutes left to play.
  • 90' + 1'
    SubstitutionJames McCarthy Ángelo Henríquez
  • 90' + 1'
We're into the second minute of injury time at the DW. Can someone take all three points?
  • 90'
    Assist Paul Scharner
  • 90'
    Goal Shaun Maloney
  • 89'
Yes! Yes they do. Wigan level the game once more as Beausejour's corner is flicked into the path of Shaun Maloney who stabs home at the near post. What a game.
  • 88'
Wigan now need to find a very quick response, do the Latics have anything left?
  • 85'
    Assist Jay Rodriguez
  • 85'
    Goal Morgan Schneiderlin
Wigan have been second best for the majority of this game and fall behind as Morgan Schneiderlin prods in to the net after excellent work down the left from Jay Rodriguez, the Saints' fans go wild, and the Latics are in deep, deep trouble.
  • 84'
Wigan win a corner, can they nick another goal against the run of play?
  • 81'
    SubstitutionJason Puncheon James Ward-Prowse
  • 81'
All the noise is coming from the away fans at the DW Stadium, they are their team on and sense they could get all three points from this one.
  • 78'
Wigan look to have finally, finally calmed things down a little. Can they hang on for a point.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionR. Espinoza Callum McManaman
  • 75'
Wigan have not looked comfortable at all in this second half, Jay Rodriguez fires over, but you sense that is not the end of the onslaught.
  • 72'
Southampton are absolutely peppering the Wigan goal, Luke Shaw breaks down the left with a wonderful run before looping a ball wide for Lambert, who fires agonisingly wide with a half-volley.
  • 70'
Jason Puncheon gets a half a yard of space in the box and wins a corner. From the resulting set-piece the ball breaks to Adam Lallana who fires just wide.
  • 67'
Southampton really pushing for the lead now and are deep in the Wigan half once more. The Latics need some respite.
  • 64'
    Assist Jay Rodriguez
  • 64'
    Goal Rickie Lambert
Southampton finally get the goal their play has deserved as a ball into the box from Jack Cork eventually finds it way to Rickie Lambert, who beats Al-Habsi to the ball to nod in from point-blank range.
  • 62'
It's difficult to put into words how one-sided this game has been. All Southampton need to do is find the killer touch in the final third. So far they haven't done it.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionNathaniel Clyne Adam Lallana
  • 59'
Good opportunity for Southampton as Rickie Lambert's ball across the face of goal just evades Schneiderlin. The Saints are getting closer.
  • 57'
Wigan are playing a really dangerous game at the moment, they are lacking any fluency and are really struggling to get out of their own half.
  • 56'
    SubstitutionRonnie Stam Jordi Gómez
  • 54'
The visitors are still dictating things but really seem to be lacking a cutting edge at the moment. Wigan haven't really been threatened at all.
  • 53'
    Yellow Card Jack Cork
  • 51'
Southampton have had 67% of possession in the last five minutes, but have done very little with it, that needs to change quickly.
  • 48'
The second half has begun in a similar pattern to the first, Ramirez swings in a cross in the direction of Lambert but Scharner is there to intercept.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionG. Ramírez Steven Davis
  • 46'
We're underway again at the DW.
  • The referee blows his whistle to signal half-time and it is Wigan who lead at the break thanks to Gary Caldwell, Southampton have perhaps had the better of the game but Wigan have been the more clinical and have something to protect in the second half.
  • 44'
The Latics look to have weathered the storm a little, just a minute to go till the break.
  • 41'
Southampton are camped in the Wigan right now, can the hosts hold on till the break?
  • 38'
Big chance for the Saints as Jos Hooiveld heads narrowly wide from a corner.
  • 36'
Southampton slowly edging their way back into this one, there are definitely more goals to come.
  • 33'
Southampton look a little rattled at the moment, Beausejour and Shaun Maloney are causing them a lot of problems defensively and they will need to improve quickly if they are to avoid conceding more.
  • 32'
    Yellow Card Jay Rodriguez
  • 31'
Roberto Martinez will undoubtedly be pleased with how his side have grown into this one, they took the lead somewhat against the run of play but are now in control and retaining possession well.
  • 28'
Things are just settling down again after that goal, Southampton won't give this one up easily and are continuing their pressing style of play.
  • 25'
    Assist Jean Beausejour
  • 25'
    Goal Gary Caldwell
Wigan take the lead and it comes from an unlikely source, Gary Caldwell heading powerfully past Boruc from a Beausejour corner.
  • 23'
Southampton may be dominating possession but Wigan look very well organised at the back, may be returning hero Paul Scharner is having an influence.
  • 20'
Southampton's front three of Lambert, Ramirez and Puncheon are linking up well at the moment, they are dictating the play when they get into the Wigan half and look very dangerous.
  • 17'
Southampton really should be ahead through Gaston Ramirez, the Uruguayan is brilliantly found by Rickie Lambert but can only blaze over the bar when through on goal.
  • 15'
Wigan are just beginning to get on top a little bit at the moment. Can they take advantage of their superiority.
  • 12'
First chance for Wigan as Franco Di Santo meets Jean Beausejour's left-wing cross, drawing a brilliant diving save from Artur Boruc.
  • 9'
Southampton are still pushing forward here in the early stages, they have yet to fashion anything of note though and Wigan look comfortable from a defensive standpoint.
  • 6'
It's been a bit quiet so far in truth, Wigan haven't yet settled and Southampton are pressing high and in numbers.
  • 3'
Good start by Southampton, they look vibrant and full of energy, Morgan Schneiderlin blazes over from the edge of the area.
