The home side notched its fifth win of the season thanks to a pair of Camilo penalty kick goals from harsh calls.
The first half was a cagey affair, with Vancouver enjoying the better of the play. Camilo had a penalty shout when Wingert bodied him to the ground halfway through the first half, but play was waved on.
Just before halftime, Vancouver's pressure paid off, albeit in somewhat controversial fashion. Camilo whipped in a freekick which resulted in a goalmouth scramble. The ball was headed towards goal and appeared to be saved by the chest of RSL midfielder Collen Warner, who was lying on the ground.
Referee Chris Penso, however, decided Warner used his arm to deny a goal, and showed him a straight red card. Camilo then stepped up and converted the penalty kick.
Five minutes into the second half, the Whitecaps had another penalty when a deflected ball struck the arm of Chris Schuler standing just inside the penalty box. Once again, Camilo converted the penalty and gave his side a 2-0 lead.
Real Salt Lake attempted to gain a foothold in the match after the goal, but couldn't trouble Joe Cannon in Vancouver's goal. In the game's dying moments, Khalfan applied the gloss, taking a flicked header from Omar Salgado and unleashing a great half-volley from the top of the box to make the final score 3-0.
