MLS Preview: Vancouver Whitecaps - Houston Dynamo

MLS Preview: Vancouver Whitecaps - Houston Dynamo

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

After a week off, league-leading Houston takes to the road for the first time this year to face the undefeated Whitecaps.

The Red-hot Houston Dynamo look to continue their winning ways when they travel to British Columbia to face the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, but the 'Caps hope to assert home-field dominance in an early-season affair between two undefeated sides.

The Dynamo have been perfect through the first two games of 2014, notching a pair of shutouts en route to an early lead atop the Eastern Conference. Much of Houston's form is thanks to the scoring exploits of Will Bruin, who has three goals so far.

Of course, Bruin and the Dynamo have won both matches in the friendly confines of BBVA Compass Stadium, so this trip to BC Place represents the first time the Dynamo will have to take their act on the road.

It's on the artificial turf in downtown Vancouver where the Whitecaps are most dangerous, and the hosts will be seeking another victory after grabbing two consecutive road draws. The 'Caps will be without a key piece, however, as midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker will miss the match after a freak off-field accident that left the Englishman's face bloodied.

Reo-Coker's absence likely means that Gershon Koffie will earn his first start of the season, with the Ghanaian set to partner with Matias Laba in central midfield.

While the Whitecaps should be able to survive without Reo-Coker's veteran presence for the time being, Vancouver will be looking to its attacking players to regain form in front of the net after a blazing opening match. In the two road games since the season opener, the 'Caps have only scored once, and that goal came late in a match at Chivas USA in which Vancouver played a man up for nearly the entirety of regulation.

Facing a Houston team that features an in-form striker and has yet to concede a goal against, the suddenly goal-challenged Whitecaps could be in for their toughest challenge of the young season.
