Live Commentary

  • Bayern's slimmest of title hopes are kept alive as they came from behind to beat Werder Bremen. Ribery's late strike means that Dortmund will have to avoid defeat to Gladbach to pick up the title and you can follow that game here on Be sure to stick around for the match report and player ratings. My name is Tom Webber and it has been a pleasure to guide you through this afternoon's game.
  • 90' + 3'
The final whistle goes at Weserstadion and Bayern have won it!
  • 90' + 1'
    Assist Toni Kroos
  • 90' + 1'
    Goal Franck Ribéry
GOOOOOAAAALLL!!! BAYERN HAVE DONE IT!! Superb from Ribery. He drops a shoulder and turns Stevanovic inside out on the left flank. He pulls the trigger with his left foot and the ball nestles in the bottom corner by the far post. Dortmund will have to get a point to win the title now!
  • 90'
JUST WIDE!! Another lovely move from Bayern works space for Kroos to fire a shot on goal from 20 yards out. Muller teed the ball up for him but his effort lacked the whip to see it curl inside the post.
  • 88'
Werder are putting in a lot of needless challenges in the Bayern half at the moment. Schmitz and Junuzovic both go through the back of visiting players when they had no chance of winning the ball.
  • 87'
Ribery again causing problems down the left and he wriggles his way into the box and pokes the ball across the goalmouth. Usami is darting in but the pass is just out of his reach. The Japanese would surely have enjoyed finishing that one.
  • 86'
Werder again cut through the Bayern defence all too easily, but once more their final pass is disappointing. Junuzovic chases a pass down but it ends up rolling behind for a goal kick.
  • 84'
That is not what you want to see from your players. Werder break but again they take too long on the ball. Hunt ends up with it on the corner of the box but is clearly unhappy with the hassling of the Bayern defenders and just lets the ball get away from him to appeal to the referee. A waste of a moments relief for the hosts.
  • 82'
The introduction of Ribery, Kroos and Gomez has certainly galvanised the visitors but it just does not seem to be clicking. Gomez has a chance to cut the ball back from the left of the box but he is forced off the ball by Naldo. There could well be another goal still in this game.
  • 81'
    SubstitutionMarkus Rosenberg Niclas Füllkrug
  • 80'
WHAT A MISS!! MULLER SHOULD HAVE SCORED!! Ribery stands the ball up at the back post and Bayern have Gomez and Muller free to turn it in. The latter goes for it but somehow nods over the bar from inside the six-yard box. That could have been the goal to win this for the visitors.
  • 79'
RIBERYYYY!! JUST WIDE!! Rafinha's pass is deflected into the path of Ribery on the edge of the area. The Frenchman tries to place the loose ball into the bottom-left corner but he ends up seeing it pass the outside of the post.
  • 77'
Bayern are in the ascendancy and could well have had another chance there if not for the offside flag. Muller clipped a lovely ball over the defence for Gomez to run onto through the middle but the referee pulls the play back. One more goal will keep them in the title race, even if it is only for a few more hours.
  • 75'
    Assist Franck Ribéry
  • 75'
    Own Goal Naldo
IT'S AN OWN GOAL!!! NALDO AGAIN!! The Brazilian has scored at both ends now as he cancels out his goal from earlier in the game. It is Ribery who creates it by surging down the right and putting the ball in the box. There is no red shirt in the area but Naldo is clearly worried and ends up diverting the ball into his own goal with a stretched foot.
  • 74'
WHAT A WASTE!!! Pizarro puts Rosenberg through on goal but the Swede seems to take an age to pull the trigger. His hesitation enables Contento to get back and put a foot in. He gets another bite at it but his tame effort is no challenge for Neuer.
  • 73'
Another strong save from Wiese. This time it is from Usami who drills a low effort, looking for the bottom left corner. It seemed to be heading on target but the keeper got down to it and held the ball well. Again the game is becoming extremely open.
  • 72'
Naldo drives forward from defence and passes two players but he over-hits his touch, allowing Tymoshchuk to intervene and take the ball. The Brazilian keeps pressurising his opponent but the Ukrainian stays cool and plays a pass back to Neuer.
  • 70'
    SubstitutionNils Petersen M. Gómez
  • 70'
Gomez gets his first touch with a free header inside the area but he fails to steer it on target. He needs to hit the net three more times this season to match his 28-goal haul from last season.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionFlorian Trinks Marko Arnautovic
  • 68'
What a waste of a chance! Pizarro goes on a mazy run in the area, beating no less than four areas in the box on his way to the back post. He ends up overrunning the ball though and has to stop and play a pass back. Again Bayern's defence is being exposed by the hosts.
  • 66'
The ball almost breaks for Petersen on the edge of the area after a lucky ricochet from a challenge on Muller. Naldo is alert to the danger though and smashes the ball well away from his goal.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionIvica Olic Franck Ribéry
  • 65'
Bayern fire in a decent ball from the right flank searching for Ribery in the area. Wiese rushes out and manages to get an outstretched arm onto it before the Frenchman can make contact.
  • 64'
    SubstitutionDanijel Pranjic Toni Kroos
  • 63'
THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A PENALTY!! Schmitz looks to play the ball back to Wiese but gets nowhere near enough on the ball. It falls to Muller who drives into the box but is met by a lunging challenge from Naldo. The Bayern man wanted a penalty and it could well have been given.
  • 60'
Bayern have 30 minutes to rescue a win from this game and delay the crowning of Dortmund until next week. Remember, nothing less than a win will do for the Bavarians, though that will not be enough should BVB win later. Heynckes will have to introduce one of his big players soon.
  • 58'
Werder earn another corner and once again it is a green shirt that gets on the other end of it. It is the goalscorer Naldo who wins it but he is backpedaling as he heads it and ends up looping it well over the bar.
  • 57'
A superb pass from Schweinsteiger is threaded straight down the channel for Usami. The Japanese tries to latch onto it but there is too much on the ball and it rolls through to Wiese.
  • 56'
A great delivery from a dead ball out on the left comes courtesy of Pranjic. It falls to Petersen who has space in the area but he tries to head the ball when it is very close to the floor. He therefore struggles to get any power on it and it dribbles to Wiese.
  • 53'
Well the party may well be starting in Dortmund now. Bayern have paid the price for playing two defensive-midfielders at centre-back as they have given Werder so much space throughout. The Bavarians forge another chance soon after but Schweinsteiger heads over unchallenged in the area.
  • 51'
    Assist Claudio Pizarro
  • 51'
    Goal Naldo
GOOOOAAAALLLL!!! NALDO!! After a great header from Pizarro is tipped over by Neuer, Werder score from the resulting corner. Junuzovic sends it over and again the Peruvian is given too much space and gets his head on it. The connection is poor and it falls to the Brazilian centre-back who fires the ball into the net from six yards out.
  • 49'
WHAT A CHANCE!! A great move by Bayern initiated with a long ball from Rafinha up to Schweinsteiger. There he finally controls the ball well and lays it into Muller who in turn finds Olic round the back on the left. He hacks at his effort though and drags it wide of the goal.
  • 48'
Schweinsteiger finds plenty of space in the centre of the pitch just inside the final third. He is picked out but his first touch is poor and allows Affolter to boot the ball to safety. That is not the first time that control has deserted him in this match.
  • 46'
The second 45 minutes have begun.
  • Bayern have won five of their last six matches at the Weserstadion in all competitions. To earn their sixth win they may have to bring on some of the big guns this half.
  • Welcome back! The sides are making their way back out onto the pitch for the second half now. Can Bayern find the winner they need to delay Dortmund's title retention? We are about to find out.
  • It has been a rather slow-tempo affair so far and remains 0-0. If it stays this way then Dortmund will be champions without even kicking a ball today. Bayern will not want that so how long do you think it will be until the likes of Robben, Ribery and Gomez enter the fray? Send your thoughts to @thwebber on Twitter and I will post the best before the restart. Stick around for the second half in 15 minutes.
  • 45' + 1'
    The half-time whistle goes!
  • 45'
Another great effort for Bayern just before the break. This time it is Muller who attempts to find the corner from the top of the box but Wiese tips it over with a great save.
  • 44'
OFF THE BAR!! Some great play on the left by Olic as he shields the ball from a throw and spins Junuzovic towards the byeline. He cuts it back for Petersen who dropped to the left of the penalty spot and drilled a fantastic effort that rattled the frame of the goal. So close.
  • 42'
Yet again Rosenberg is offered far too much space in the left-hand channel and is picked out with an excellent ball. He gets his head up to send the ball across to Pizarro but his delivery is deflected back to Neuer.
  • 41'
Werder are having their best spell in possession now but again when they look to make the final pass Pizarro is offside. They are getting so much space on the defenders but need to time their runs better to make the most of it.
  • 39'
Muller comes deep to pick up the ball but is dispossessed by Pizarro and he launches the ball out to Junuzovic on the right, initiating a break. They take too long to get the ball into the box though and Muller gets back to deal with it.
  • 37'
Great strike! There is not a lot of options on for Contento so the left-back decides to shoot from 25 yards out. He hits the ball sweetly enough but it is always rising and arrows narrowly over Wiese's bar.
  • 36'
Rosenberg and Pizarro are finding a lot of space between the makeshift central defensive pairing of Luiz Gustavo and Tymoshchuk. A ball over the top finds Rosenberg in space on the left but he is adjudged to be offside. If he had timed that run fractionally better then Neuer could well have been faced with some danger.
  • 34'
Rafinha makes his first foray down the right wing but his cross evades Petersen at the near post before being dealt with by a green shirt. The delivery has not been the best so far.
  • 33'
Bayern are focusing a lot of their pressure down Werder's right and Schweinsteiger comes across to help. Unfortunately for the Bavarians his touch deserts him and he gets the ball stuck under his feet and is dispossessed.
  • 31'
Usami tries to thread a pass through to Olic in the area and Wiese rushes out to get the ball. He is beaten to it by his own defender who was clearly unaware of his goalkeepers imminent presence and slid the ball away.
  • 30'
SO CLOSE!! Another break from Werder and Affolter charges forward from centre-back. A pass to the right offers Rosenberg a chance to send it back in on the defenders head but his cross is just behind him and the chance goes begging. It is a very open game.
  • 28'
The hosts earn a free kick in a dangerous area and Naldo steps up to take it from 25 yards. He hits the ball ferociously but it shoots straight up into the stands behind the goal. Not his best attempt there.
  • 25'
Both teams have had chances to go ahead here but neither have taken them. Werder last beat Bayern at home in the 2006/07 season with Brazilian playmaker Diego was among the scorers in a 3-1 victory.
  • 23'
THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GOAL!! A cross in from the right finds both Pizarro and Rosenberg free in the area. The Peruvian fails to get his head on the ball but with Neuer rooted to the spot it offers his fellow striker a chance to poke it in at the back post. But from 10 yards out and on the slide, Rosenberg skies it!
  • 22'
Another wasteful pass brings an end to a promising Werder move. Trinks looks for Pizarro at the back post but hits it far too long and straight out of play. Bayern counter and Olic beats Affolter down the left as the Swiss came across to cover. He tries to get the ball into the box for Muller but it loops over the bar and deep.
  • 20'
Werder get a man over down the right and Stevanovic tries to pick him out by switching the play. It is Junuzovic storming forward from right-back but he completely misses the ball and it runs out for a throw in.
  • 19'
GREAT SAVE!! Contento whips in a great ball from out on the left and Petersen manages to work his way free of Schmitz to get on the end of it. His diving header is on target but straight down the middle, allowing Wiese to parry it off to the side. Nevertheless it was a great reaction save from the keeper.
  • 17'
That is more like it. A defence-splitting pass scythes open Bayern and puts Rosenberg through on goal. However there is too much weight on the ball and he is beaten to it by Neuer. The Swede left a foot in on the keeper, much to the annoyance of the visiting players.
  • 15'
It has been a rather tepid opening 15 minutes at the Weserstadion. Despite the number of changes to the first team Bayern are performing fairly cohesively and look comfortable on the ball. Their opponents however are a bit rushed but if they can put some pressure on this Bavarian defence they could well reap some rewards.
  • 13'
Werder are struggling to hold onto the ball when they manage to pull it away from Bayern. They are looking to break quickly with some fast interchanging passes but what they need to do is slow the game down and take a bit of time to settle.
  • 11'
A cross-field pass finds Muller on the right corner of the box. He attempts to send the ball straight into the area with a first-time volley, looking for Petersen. It bounces in the area but Wiese manages to slap it out of the path of the striker before gathering.
  • 10'
Contento pushes forward from left-back for the first time this afternoon and plays a pass to Olic to drive at the defender. He fails to get past his man but wins his side a corner. Usami goes across to take it but Wiese rises unchallenged and gets a fist to it.
  • 8'
Werder get the ball into the box with a long diagonal pass that is cut back to Rosenberg by Pizarro but it just will not fall for his strike partner and the makeshift Bayern defence can get it away.
  • 6'
Usami again breaks forward down the right and charges for the byeline. He puts the ball into the danger area but his low cross hits the first defender in Naldo and the Brazilian removes the threat. Bright start from the Japanese player.
  • 4'
A typical start here from the visitors. They are knocking the ball along the back with the wide players and midfielders moving out of possession as they look for a pass. Werder cannot let them have the ball like this for too long from the start or they could well get picked apart.
  • 2'
First chance for Bayern and what a miss it is! Usami is freed down the right and plays a great cross in between Wiese and his defenders. Petersen gets on the end of it and has a clear sight of goal but his connection is awful and the ball loops up and is cleared away.
  • 1'
    We're underway at the Weserstadion!
  • The teams are just about to make their way out onto the pitch. Kick off is just a few minutes away.
  • The Bavarians came out on top in the reverse of this fixture earlier this season. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery netted twice each in a 4-1 win at the Allianz Arena. Both start on the bench today.
  • Werder have failed to win in their last six Bundesliga matches. In fact they have suffered a dramatic decline in their form since the winter break, winning just two games in 13 Bundesliga fixtures since the turn of the year. They have therefore slipped to eighth and out of the European places.
  • That is a total of eight changes to the Bayern team that beat Real Madrid in midweek. Is Jupp Heynckes right to have rested so many players? Should the Bavarians fail to win the Dortmund could win the title before they even kick off today. Risky business. Send you thoughts and comments my way on Twitter @thwebber.
  • Bayern (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Rafinha, Luiz Gustavo, Tymoshchuk, Contento; Pranjic, Schweinsteiger; Usami, Muller, Olic; Petersen. Subs: Butt, Boateng, Alaba, Robben, Ribery, Kroos, Gomez.
  • Werder Bremen (4-3-1-2): Wiese; Junuzovic, Affolter, Naldo, Schmitz; Hunt, Trybull, Stevanovic; Trinks; Pizarro, Rosenberg. Subs: Mielitz, Arnautovic, Avdic, Fullkrug, Prodl, Silvestre.
  • Werder, however, are also missing a number of important players. Sokratis and Boenisch are suspended while Ekici, Bargfrede and Marin all miss out through injury. Full team news to follow in just a moment.
  • You would expect confidence at Bayern to be high coming off the back of their 2-1 win against Real Madrid on Tuesday, but Jupp Heynckes has made eight changes from the team that started that game. Gomez, Robben and Ribery are all benched while Lahm is left out of the squad completely.
  • Hello and welcome to's LIVE text commentary on this afternoon's Bundesliga match as Werder Bremen host Bayern Munich. A win may not be enough for the visitors today as should Borussia Dortmund defeat Gladbach later today, they will be crowned champions for the second year running.
