Robson scored his second goal in as many games to ensure Vancouver would end the night alone in third place in the Western Conference.
Dane Richards got things started in the first half before Alan Gordon found an equalizer. A penalty kick from Barry Robson in the second period proved to be the game-winner.
Vancouver opened the scoring when Y.P. Lee found Richards with a through ball, and the Jamaican buried a powerful strike past Jon Busch in the San Jose goal.
San Jose leveled the match in the 38th minute when Marvin Chavez found the head of a cutting Gordon in the Vancouver box. The forward's goal was his ninth of the year, far surpassing his previous career-high of five.
The Whitecaps went back ahead midway through the second half in controversial fashion. Camilo appeared to make the most of a Sam Cronin challenge in the box, and referee Jair Marrufo deferred to his linesman, who signaled for a penalty kick. Robson stepped up and buried the spot kick to ultimately give his team the win.
