English star Jermain Defoe stayed in the Golden Boot race with his 11th strike of the season.

Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps split second-half goals and the points in an all-Canadian Major League Soccer matchup that ended 1-1.

Darren Mattocks scored for Vancouver in the 50th minute. Vancouver pushed a counter down the left channel and Russell Teibert cut a perfect cross to the Jamaican, who finished from near the penalty spot.

Toronto's eqalizer came in the 64th minute. Nigel Reo-Coker collided with Jackson in the penalty box to concede the spot kick, and Jermain Defoe sent David Ousted the wrong way to level at 1-1. It was Defoe's 11th goal of the season, good for fourth in MLS and five behind leader Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Toronto (7-5-4) is now seven points off Eastern Conference leader Sporting Kansas City with three games in hand. Vancouver is 6-4-8, but LA is two points back with a trio of games in hand and Chivas USA is on a hot streak and three back of the 'Caps.
