Toronto FC was unable to hang on late, succumbing to a late Sheanon Williams equalizer on Saturday afternoon.Toronto FC appeared to be on its way to a rare league victory before Sheanon Williams scored with five minutes to play to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-1 draw at BMO Field.
After missing a number of chances in the first half, TFC opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the second period when Luis Silva cut a low cross to Eric Hassli at the top of the box. The Frenchman took a touch to control, then buried a low shot to the far post.
The home side conceded a late equalizer after failing to properly clear a free kick. The ball was sent wide to Antoine Hoppenot, whose low cross was turned in by Williams from close range.
TFC has already been eliminated from playoff contention and despite the late point Philadelphia is almost certain to follow suit in the next couple weeks. The Union are 15 points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
