Live Commentary

  • With that, I'm signing off. This has been Thomas Floyd (@thomasfloyd10) and thanks for following along with Goal USA's live commentary.
  • Well this went about as perfectly as possible for the Revolution, who surged into third place and were able to get Jones some minutes in a low-pressure situation.
  • Full time: New England rolls to a 3-0 win at Toronto FC behind goals from Lee Nguyen, Kelyn Rowe and Teal Bunbury, with Jermaine Jones logging 25 minutes in his MLS debut.
  • 90'
Gilberto with a chance as Hagglund nods one for him in front of goal, but the Brazilian's header goes over.
  • 89'
Bad giveaway from Goncalves ends with Shuttleworth stopping De Rosario's effort from a tough angle.
  • 87'
Lovitz plays a through ball ... to no one. Shuttleworth collects. Toronto really seems to be going through the motions now.
  • 84'
Gorgeous over-the-top ball from Bradley had Gilberto in one-on-one against Shuttleworth — but the striker took his eye off the ball and it drifted away.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Gilberto
  • 82'
After many warnings, Gilberto finally goes in the book for a rough challenge.
  • 80'
    SubstitutionL. Moore Dwayne De Rosario
  • 80'
Dwayne De Rosario enters for TFC, replacing Moore. It's the first game action in more than a month for the Toronto native, who has played just 41 minutes since mid-April.
  • 80'
A TFC attack ends with Gilberto getting called for offside. Toronto is really looking frustrated at this point.
  • 77'
Kelyn Rowe is my man of the match today for New England. In addition to scoring a spectacular goal and helping set up Bunbury's strike, he has been a constant threat from his wide midfield role.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionLee Nguyen Diego Fagundez
  • 75'
Nguyen makes way for Fagundez. Very good outing for Nguyen, who notched a goal and an assist.
  • 72'
Shuttleworth is down after taking a late bump from Moore. Looks like he'll be fine, though. No card for Moore.
  • 70'
We just had our first MLS foul for Jermaine Jones. I suspect it won't be the last.
  • 70'
Jones with a nice layoff for Neumann on the right, but the cross misses the mark.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionDominic Oduro Jackson
  • 68'
TFC has swapped out both of its wingers, with Lovitz replacing Osorio and now Jackson coming on for Oduro.
  • 67'
Jones get his first touch for New England, starting a counterattack with a long run down the right flank before seeing his pass for Davies intercepted.
  • 66'
    SubstitutionTeal Bunbury Stephan Neumann
  • 66'
Steve Neumann has also come on, replacing Bunbury.
  • 65'
    SubstitutionDaigo Kobayashi Jones
  • 65'
And here we go: Jermaine Jones has entered for Daigo Kobayashi. He'll get 25 minues in his MLS debut.
  • 62'
    SubstitutionJonathan Osorio Daniel Lovitz
  • 61'
Save Shuttleworth! He lunges to deny Osorio's bid that was destined for the upper corner.
  • 59'
Rowe slotted in Davies, who waited until Bendik came out and then played a ball across goal to Bunbury, who had an empty net.
  • 58'
    Goal Teal Bunbury
  • 58'
GOAL NEW ENGLAND! Teal Bunbury taps home at the far post after Davies pulled Bendik out of goal.
  • 56'
Another opportunity for the Revs! Rowe hits a very clever ball across the goalmouth that just misses Davies and Bunbury.
  • 54'
Chance New England! Nguyen finds Kobayashi in the box, but the midfielder passes up a shot and hits a centering feed for Davies that is cleared.
  • 53'
And Bradley smashes his effort into the wall. TFC regroups and maintains possession.
  • 52'
Another foul on Caldwell earns Toronto a free kick 25 yards from goal. Bradley to take.
  • 48'
With Jermaine Jones, of course, the Revolution will have a pretty decent option to replace Caldwell in defensive midfield next time out.
  • 47'
    Yellow Card Scott Caldwell
  • 47'
As happens from time to time, Oduro outran his defender and drew a yellow card on Caldwell. He'll be suspended for New England's next match.
  • 46'
Goncalves forces Bendik into action, as the goalkeeper has to tip the center back's header over the bar.
  • 46'
And we are back for the second half.
  • If this score stands, this will be a huge result for New England. The three points would push the Revolution from beyond the playoff picture to tied for third in the Eastern Conference, and also put a dent in TFC's positioning.
  • There's the halftime whistle. "We pressured them into some good turnovers, and that was the gameplan," Revolution coach Jay Heaps tells New England's broadcast crew.
  • 45'
Extended stretch of possession from New England now. It eventually ends with Davies getting called for a foul at the top of the box, but the Revs clearly are frustrating TFC with this ball movement.
  • 43'
Nice work from Soares to come up with an interception and a big clearance in quick succession as Toronto provides some pressure through Gilberto.
  • 41'
Barnes does well to intercept a long ball from TFC and clear. He's been steady at left back thus far.
  • 38'
Oduro uses his pace to earn a corner at the other end, and the sequence ends with Shuttleworth collecting a Warner cross.
  • 38'
Shouts for a handball as Bunbury's cross from the left flank deflects off Hagglund and falls into Bendik's arms. No call.
  • 36'
    Yellow Card Kelyn Rowe
  • 36'
Oduro earns a set piece on the right flank and draws a yellow card on Rowe, who was a step late with his challenge. But the Revs clear Warner's free kick.
  • 34'
Gilberto does very well to rise and connect with Bradley's long ball into the box, but the shot goes wide.
  • 33'
The Revolution earn another corner, but Goncalves' header is well wide. Toronto in possession now.
  • 32'
Dangerous cross Bunbury on the right flank earns a corner kick as Bendik palms it over the bar. Rowe's corner is cleared out by TFC, though.
  • 31'
Warner just over! Bloom does very well to run down Bradley's pass down the left flank and hits a cross that eventually falls to Warner at the top of the box. But his effort just buzzes over the crossbar.
  • 30'
Working on the overlap, Bloom came very close to freeing Gilberto. But the Revs' back line picked out his through ball.
  • 27'
A half-chance for Toronto, as Gilberto finds some space in midfield and heads toward goal. But he cuts back to his left and blows a 20-yard effort well over.
  • 24'
This is a shocking start for Toronto, which is playing at home against a New England team that has won just two matches since May ended. But we all know the Revolution have the talent to contend when they're on the same page. If New England gets on a roll while adding Jones to the equation, this is a team no one wants to face.
  • 22'
Rowe ran onto a little flick from Nguyen, then danced around a challenge from Bradley and launched a 30-yard effort past Bendik. That was special.
  • 21'
    Goal Kelyn Rowe
  • 21'
GOAL NEW ENGLAND! It's a stunning individual effort from Kelyn Rowe!
  • 19'
Some attacking pressure from the Revolution, who see the aftermath of a Rowe set piece end with Nguyen skying a long-range effort over.
  • 15'
TFC wins a corner a kick after Soares hits a rough pass back to Shuttleworth, who can only shank it out. But the Revs clear the set piece.
  • 14'
But Nguyen's effort is smashed into the wall, as is his second shot.
  • 13'
Great work from Nguyen, who evades a challenge from Bradley, then draws the foul on Warner some 25 yards from goal. Dangerous set piece here.
  • 12'
A bit of extended possession here for Toronto. New England finally wins it back, but Farrell immediately whacks it out of bounds.
  • 8'
Another chance for New England! A service to the far post falls to Bunbury, but he can't quite bring it in.
  • 7'
This is a rather shorthanded Toronto team, with captain Steven Caldwell, steady left back Justin Morrow and star striker Jermain Defoe all sidelined.
  • 6'
There was an opportunity there for Toronto, but it ends with Gilberto getting called for a foul on Soares.
  • 5'
    Yellow Card Teal Bunbury
  • 4'
Bunbury goes in the book for a high boot that catches Warner in the midsection. The midfielder is getting treatment but it looks like he'll continue.
  • 2'
    Goal Lee Nguyen
  • 2'
GOAL NEW ENGLAND! Lee Nguyen collects the ball some 35 yards from goal, takes a few steps and fires a low, bouncing shot that sneaks in the far post. That's 10 goals this season for Nguyen.
  • 1'
We are underway at BMO Field.
  • Today, of course, could mark the MLS debut of U.S. World Cup star Jones. But the match also has major playoff implications, with sixth-place New England three points behind third-place Toronto.
  • And Toronto's bench: Konopka, Richter, Lovitz, Bekker, Jackson, De Rosario, Dike
  • Here is Toronto FC coach Ryan Nelsen's starting XI: Bendik; Hagglund, Orr, Henry, Bloom; Oduro, Warner, Bradley, Osorio; Moore, Gilberto
  • And the New England bench: Knighton, Alston, Fagundez, JONES, Mullins, Neumann, Taylor
  • Here is the Revolution lineup: Shuttleworth; Barnes, Goncalves, Soares, Farrell; Caldwell; Rowe, Nguyen, Kobayashi, Bunbury; Davies
  • We'll have to wait a bit to see those U.S. national team central midfielders go head to head, though, because Jones is on the bench today.
  • Good afternoon on another Saturday of MLS action. My name is Thomas Floyd (@thomasfloyd10) and I'll be providing commentary on today's clash between Michael Bradley's Toronto FC and Jermaine Jones' New England Revolution.
