Toronto FC 0-1 Colorado Rapids: Buddle scores second-half winner

The Rapids claimed their first-ever victory over Toronto at BMO FIeld thanks to a late Edson Buddle strike.

The Colorado Rapids claimed a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday, as Edson Buddle's 77th minute goal was the difference-maker in a choppy match at BMO Field.

Toronto was missing high-priced designated players Michael Bradley and Jermain Defoe, along with starting center back Doneil Henry and Bradley's midfield partner Jonathan Osorio. The absences were easy to spot, as TFC lacked a killer instinct in front of goal despite creating numerous chances.

The first half was listless, with Toronto carrying much of the play but having few ideas in the final third. The Rapids were even less impressive, allowing themselves to be pinned in their own half for most of the opening 45 minutes before showing some signs of life in the dying moments before the halftime whistle.

The second half went much the same, as TFC enjoyed most of the play but couldn't break the deadlock. Kyle Bekker came closest to scoring for Toronto, as his 25-yard free kick rifled off the right post and out. Minutes later, Colorado tallied against the run of play thanks to a series of calamitous mistakes by TFC in its own area, which led to Buddle's easy finish from inside the 6-yard box.

Bekker would again find the woodwork in added time, this time hitting the crossbar on a last-minute free kick, but it was all that TFC could muster on the day as the Rapids left BMO Field with all three points for the first time since Toronto joined the league in 2007.
