New forward Andrew Wiedeman scored the game winner on a redirected shot to give Paul Mariner's men another win.
Colorado dodged a very early bullet when Matt Pickens pulled Luis Silva down in the box, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Ryan Johnson's penalty kick was poor, though, and it pinged off the post and out for a goal kick.
The Rapids made TFC pay for its wastefulness 20 minutes later when Conor Casey got his head on a Hunter Freeman cross to give the visitors the lead.
Johnson atoned for his miss from the spot five minutes into the second half when he bullied his way through the Rapids defense before deftly touching past the onrushing Pickens and into the back of the net.
Andrew Wiedeman gave his side the lead and ultimately the win with just over 20 minutes remaining. The new acquisition from FC Dallas stuck his foot out to redirect a Luis Silva shot past a helpless Pickens.
Toronto FC has now won three consecutive matches for the first time since 2008. The team is 4-2-4 under Mariner after it went 1-9-0 to start the season under the now-departed Aron Winter.
