Could do nothing with either of the West Brom goals. Handling from set-pieces was good and kicking was good under pressure. One excellent save to deny Brunt.
Nightmare game for the center-half in his first game back since April was caught out by the ball over the top of the defense and by the pace of Odemwingie and Long.
Had a troubled start and occasionally struggled with Brunt. Was good going forward and worked well with Larsson to help create many chances.
The experienced defender wasn’t as his best in this game. He left a lot space behind in which the Baggies exploited with their pace and was beaten in the air at set-pieces on a lot of occasions. Improved in the second half.
Was troubled by the pace of Long and didn’t seem to have an understanding with his defensive partner as to the depth of their line. Made one good intervention to stop Long from adding a third at 2-0.
Ahmed El Mohamady
Great headed finish for the Black Cat equalizer gave the Baggies trouble down the Sunderland right with his pace and the mismatch in size with Shorey as he won headers aplenty.
Ran the show in the first half. It seemed like he was all over the place for the Black Cats. He always wanted the ball to set up attacks and could have had a goal himself had luck been on his side. Great performance.
Had a good game in the midfield. Looked a bit nervy in the first few minutes but like his teammates responded to going two goals behind. Unlucky not to score late in half with good effort.
Gave the Black Cats bite in the midfield and won plenty of tackles. Was edgy for the first 20 minutes but grew into the game as it developed.
Had a great game for Steve Bruce’s side was at the heart to everything good they did going forward. Great back-heel to Bendtner for the first goal and good cross to Elmohamady for the second.
Had an excellent game. Was a thorn in the side of the West Brom defense all afternoon. They struggled with his height and physical ability also helped bring his midfielders into the game with great passing.
Made a few decent saves to stop Sunderland taking the lead late in the first half. Handling and kicking were solid, took a few knocks but coped with physical Sunderland approach.
Didn’t know what to do with the speed of Stephane Sessegnon struggled to track the Benin international. Looked shaky in the air against Bendtner as well. Not his best game.
Struggled at times with Larsson and the overlapping threat of Richardson. Was decent going forward and tried to support Brunt whenever he could.
Was given a rough ride by Elmohamady as he was burned for pace down the wing on a few occasions. Couldn’t match up to the Egyptian in the air as there was mis-match in height and strength.
Had a good start against Bendtner but struggled as the game wore on with his physical presence. Could have done better to stop the Dane from getting Sunderland’s first goal.
Struggled to see a lot of the ball and allowed the Black Cats to win the midfield. Allowed Sunderland midfielders to run from deep untracked which led to opportunities for the Wearsiders.
Was anonymous for most of the game apart from the first five minutes where he helped his side take a 2-0 lead. Was out-competed in the middle by Gardner and Cattermole.
Took goal very well as he peeled off his marker at the front post and showed composure with a great header. Drifted in and out of the game in the second half as he was unable to impose himself as much as he would have liked.
Troubled the Black Cats defense with his direct style of play and pace. Good cross for the first goal as he picked out Morrison but could have done better with opportunities that fell his way.
Good calm finish for his goal. He troubled the Black Cats defense all afternoon with his pace and movement. He could have had more goals if he had taken the chances that fell his way.
Apart from the first five minutes he was anonymous and didn’t really trouble the Black Cats defense. A game to forget for the Nigerian who is yet to hit the heights of last season.
